Energy Conservation Campaign
Everyone will have experienced walking down a hot street in mid summer and passing a shop and feeling cold air rushing out. But research shows that when shops leave their doors open with air-conditioning on, they use 20% more energy and produce 20% more CO2 emissions.
This inspired Paul Priestman creative director and chairman of PULI innovation, to produce this short film to encourage people to think about energy conservation. As he says ‘In a world where we are trying to reduce CO2 emissions there is something wrong here; we can’t afford to be this wasteful.’
Cities around the world have tried to tackle this problem by imposing fines on shops that leave their doors open whilst the air-conditioning is on, but it has had limited effect. Priestman believes that it is about making people aware and changing perceptions so that energy wastage to this extent becomes socially unacceptable. Most people want to make a difference and minimise global emissions but feel helpless; this simple change could make a big difference.
This film is part of a PULI initiative to engage with cities, governments, local authorities and interested parties to create energy conservation campaigns, and to allow society as a whole to positively minimise climate change.
