We have several positions open within our team at PULI innovation by Paul Priestman, including several Senior Designers and Mid-Level Designers, as well as a CMF Designer and a CMF Intern.

 


 

Job Title: Senior Designers 

Location: Shanghai

Duration: Full-time

 

As a designer in PULI innovation, you will be responsible for the exterior and interior design development of future vehicles. You will be part of the team that creates and executes world-class vehicle designs in terms of form and function and futuristic vision. Using your considerable production design experience and innovative thinking, you will primarily be tasked with creating designs for future vehicles, but you may also be called upon for other design tasks (interior design, product design, etc.) based on your skillset. Our design team prides itself on being multitalented and flexible, and we look for the same in our potential candidates. You will report to the design director in PULI innovation Design Studio in Shanghai.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Develop exterior & interior design proposals for all forms of transport including, human powered, road, rail, ship and aerospace;  
  • Create compelling sketches that show a vision for the future travel and transport; 
  • Guide a design from the sketch phase to concept modelling in Alias, Rhino or SolidWorks, and do the final rendering through V-red; 
  • Work with engineers to come up with design and engineering solutions that serve the design vision and also fit with the engineering limitations;
  • Participate in cross-functional strategy, timing, and process discussion as it pertains to vehicle development; 
  • Work with CMF designers to create designs that consider the opportunities and limits of the colour and trim vision, and work with them to create a unified vision for the designs; 
  • Work with suppliers to achieve the best possible product in terms of cost, and engineering, while also staying as close to the design vision as possible; 
  • Collaborate with the fabrication team to complete prototypes when necessary;
  • Occasionally participate in design efforts outside of your area of expertise as necessity and as your own skillset dictates. 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Automotive or Transportation Design with a minimum of 5 years of experience in production automotive design - or a combination of advanced and production design;
  • Must understand the fundamental differences in design and engineering;
  • High level of skill taking 2D sketches to 3D modelling in Alias, Rhino or SolidWorks;
  • Must be self-motivated and able to manage multiple parallel-path projects;
  • Demonstrated an ability to deliver successful designs under tight timing constraints and provide examples of such scenarios throughout career. 

Preferred:

  • Good read and write ability, and good spoken English / Chinese ability;
  • Excellent at creating and maintaining cross-functional working relationships;
  • Experience in rail design will be a plus;
  • Exceptional visual and oral communication skills;
  • Designers already working in China is a plus.

  • Railway design experience will be a plus.

Job Title: CMF Designer / Intern

Location: Shanghai

 

We are in pursuit of enthusiastic CMF professionals who will play a crucial role in shaping the aesthetic and tactile aspects of PULI innovation. You will be exposed to and contribute to innovative design projects in the transport and mobility sector, gaining hands-on experience with CMF applications in a professional and international context. You will also assist in the establishment and curation of our CMF material library—a pivotal asset to our design ventures. This role presents a hybrid of operational duties, creative engagements, and research tasks, offering a comprehensive work experience. You will report to the Creative Director and CMF Project Lead in PULI innovation Design Studio in Shanghai.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Apply CMF expertise include but not limited to developing colour schemes, fabric options, and material choices for various PULI design projects in sectors such as railways, airlines, and future mobility;
  • Engage in design discussions and reviews, providing valuable input and suggestions;
  • Procure an array of samples from domestic and international suppliers, such as textiles and leathers, natural and synthetic materials, colour palettes and paints, surfaces and finishes, as well as sustainable materials;
  • Develop and maintain the CMF library; keep the material library up-to-date, well-documented, and user-friendly;
  • Research colour trends, manufacturing techniques, and development in the field.

Qualifications:

  • Enrolment in or recent completion of a university programme in textiles, product design, transportation design ,or a related discipline;
  • Professional understanding of colours, finishes and materials, with an appreciation for global design trends and material innovation;
  • Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign;
  • Proactive, with exceptional organisational abilities and attention to detail;
  • A creative mind with a passion for transportation and mobility design.

Preferred:

  • Proficient communication skills in English and Mandarin;
  • Skill in using Keyshot is preferred;
  • Overseas education background is a plus;

Working Hours:

  • A commitment of at least two days per week on-site at our Shanghai studio.
